One of the benefits of the internet is the ability to shop from a wide range of stores, brands and auction sites. There are several ways to shop online most have the same layout and buttons to make it easier to navigate.

The internet is a wonderful tool that has lots of benefits and can make your life better. Unfortunately, the features that make it easy for honest people to use can also be exploited by criminals and people intending to cause disruption.

But you should not let fear stop you using the internet. There are a few simple precautions that can keep you and your password information safe.

It’s important that your computer at home is protected. You do this with special programmes:
Firewall software
Anti-virus software

What Types of Antivirus are there?

Free antivirus – These programs are free to download and offer some limited protection against virus  and some other threats online. They tend to wait until the issue is on your computer and then try to resolve it

Paid Antivirus – Antivirus you pay for either Annually or by subscription tend to have a lot more features to keep you safe such as a Firewall it like a brick wall that prevents anything nasty getting into your computer. Like a bouncer at a night club it knows which are ok to let in and which to stop.

Most paid antivirus software also comes with Antispyware this is to prevent any nasty programs installing themselves on your computer and taking over. Its like a second security measure.

Keep your device up to date with updates!

If you are on a computer / Laptop you can click on the Start menu   And Type in “check for updates” then click on the “Check for updates” button. Your computer will start to look for updates and install them. These are important as they fix security issues on your computer.

Tablet or Phone – if you are using a tablet or phone you can click the you need to look for the Apps Store on the device. As each device is different you may have to search the internet for your device or look in the user guide that came with it. These are the most popular apps stores on devices.
